Helping Kids Feel Okay About the Dentist

Gentle care that builds positive habits for life

When should my child first see a dentist?

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a first visit around age one or when the first tooth appears. At Willow Family Dentistry in Wylie, Dr. Esther Jeong sees children of all ages and takes extra time with kids who are nervous or visiting the dentist for the first time.

Pediatric Dentistry

Kids who have good experiences at the dentist grow into adults who take care of their teeth. That is why we focus on making visits positive, not just getting through them. We have a separate play area where kids can relax before their appointment. Dr. Jeong and our team go slowly, explain things in kid-friendly terms, and never force anything. If your child needs a few visits just to get comfortable sitting in the chair, that is perfectly fine.

What to Expect

Here's what happens during your pediatric dentistry appointment.

1

Getting Comfortable

We let your child explore the room and meet the team. No rushing. Some kids need a few minutes, others need a few visits.

2

Gentle Exam

Dr. Jeong counts teeth, looks for cavities, and checks how the jaw is developing. We explain what we are doing in simple terms.

3

Cleaning If Ready

If your child is comfortable, we do a gentle cleaning. If not, we save it for next time. Building trust matters more than checking boxes.

4

Parent Chat

We talk with you about what we found, answer your questions, and give tips for home care appropriate to your child's age.
